Welcome to the Grade 7 Poetry Wiki! This online tool is set up to give you resources, create discussion and help deepen your understanding of poetry. We will be focusing on 3 types of poem forms: Ballads, Sonnets and Free Verse. There are many types of figurative language that can be zeroed in on in poetic forms. In this unit we will be sharpening our recognition skills of imagery, meter and rhyme as well as repetition. Alliteration, metaphors and similes all help to make poetry come alive. Get ready to use your Multiple Intelligences as we work our way through projects for this unit! Be creative and have fun!

To start, we will explore Free Verse. Links on the hand side of the page are listed alphabetically. So please follow the order of activities here on the HOME page. Then will move on to Ballads. Sonnets are saved for last, be prepared to learn more of one of the epic poets/playwrights; William Shakespeare!

The documents page is set up with pdfs and other types of documents to use as templates, informational handouts and rubrics. It's like your notebook, only online!

All students will complete a POEMS bingo! As we explore the types of poetry as a class and read the book Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman, you should be working on completing a BINGO. The board is set up so that you have choice and variety in the types of poems you write about and analyze, as well as how you show your learning. We have approximately 3 weeks to complete this unit.

POEMS BINGO Assignments will be given time in class to work on 3 times during the unit. You MUST PLAN on working on the BINGO outside of class.
